MEXICAN FOOD IS MORE THAN TACOS?? SHOCKING!
One of the most recognized foods in the world is Mexican food. However, this recognition is mostly awarded to tacos. In today’s read we will show you that tacos is NOT the only Mexican dish in Mexican cuisine. The following dishes are as rich and delicious as tacos (many would think they are better!).
We want to inspire you with these dishes, so don’t be afraid. Lets dig some of Mexico’s signature dishes and allow your palate to taste a variety of flavours that will cause some tears of joy.
Enchiladas:
This divine dish is well-known all around Mexico and its popularity around the world has increased considerably over the years. Its delicious mix of flavours makes this dish an absolute explosion in your mouth.
It consists of a roll of corn tortilla filled with pretty much anything from meats, cheese, potatoes, or a cool mix of all ingredients. It is also categorized for being covered with your favorite type of salsa: salsa roja, salsa verde, mole or queso. It can also be accompanied by some fried beans and rice. Make sure you are hungry enough because this will be very filling.
Pozole:
According to Mexican Culinary History, this dish was meant to be enjoyed on special occasions such as birthdays and holidays. But, pozole is so delicious you will literally celebrate a ‘special ocassion’ on any given day!
This is why pozole is served all year long in many restaurants. This dish is a soup made out of homini broth (commonly known as corn), which is treated a special way in order to make this dish an absolute masterpiece.
There are several ways to make pozole, yet usually pork or chicken are the stars of the show. These are added to the broth along with colored vegetables in order to make it white, green or red.
We are talking about Mexican cuisine which means that chile (spice) is definitely not out of the picture. Of course this dish contains a combination of chiles like ancho peppers, poblano peppers and any other pepper types which besides making the dish firy, it adds the perfect color tone you are looking for. It is served in many ways: it can be garnished with sliced lemons, cabbage, avocados, onions, shredded lettuce, among others.
Tamales:
This dish is the perfect food for those who consider themselves adventurous. Tamales can be plated in its own wrap; That’s right! They are a kind of ‘portable food’.
This dish is made with corn dough, filled with delicious meat, cheese, vegetables, or pretty much anything you want (even fruits!). In order to cook them, they are wrapped in banana leaves and then steamed until the dough is hard enough to be ready to eat. Tamales are a “to-go” type food that adjusts to everybody’s schedules and scenarios. This is because not many utensils are needed to eat them and they are just ready for you to dig-in and enjoy.
Huevos Rancheros:
Have you heard “breakfast is the most important meal in the day”? (Probably your abuelita told you this at some point) The type of breakfast we are talking about will either give you a great amount of energy or a paralyzing food comma!
Huevos rancheros are made with fried eggs on top of a heated tortilla (corn or flour - you get to pick), and then, they are covered with a delicious fresh salsa.
In different cities within Mexico, they may vary in the way they are served, however, they are usually accompanied by rice, avocado or guacamole, cilantro, sour cream, some queso and even lettuce. One of the most powerful breakfast for a busy day at work - Only if you work from home and can take a siesta right after breakfast.
Chilaquiles:
Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you have tons of leftovers and no idea of what to do with them? Chilaquiles are then an excellent idea for brunch with friends!
They are made out of fried tortillas (tortilla chips) in the form of triangles covered with green or red salsa, and topped with pulled chicken, avocado, queso fresco, beans, eggs, you name it… throw your favorite protein and enjoy these like there is no tomorrow! (🤤)
